African American National Biography, accessed February 19, 2015, via Oxford African American Studies Center database: (Lopes, Lisa (Left Eye); hip hop/rap artist, dancer, entrepreneur; born 27 May 1971 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States; resided in Kansas, Panama, New Jersey, and Florida, before settling in Atlanta, Georgia (November 1990); audition for the girl band Second Nature (TLC); the group produced four albums; the album “Oooooooohhh On the TLC Tip” (25 February 1992) produced three top-ten singles: “Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg,” “What about Your Friends,” and “Baby-Baby-Baby”; filed a domestic violence report against her boyfriend Andre Rison (2 September 1992); after a second bout of domestic violence she started a fire (9 June 1994) and was sentenced to five years probation, was ordered to go to rehab for alcoholism, and was charged a fine; wrote the rap lyrics featured as the bridge to TLC's number one hit song “Waterfalls”; the song “CrazySexyCool” won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group (1996); founded Left Eye Productions; the groups third album “FanMail” produced two number one hit singles: “No Scrubs” and “Unpretty” (1999-2000); died 25 April 2002 in La Ceiba, Honduras in a car accident)
