German Wikipedia, Mar. 29, 2014: "Andreas Rivinus" (Andreas Rivinus; also: Bachmann; born Oct. 17, 1601 Halle (Saale); died Apr. 4, 1656 Leipzig; German philosopher, neo-Latin poet, philologist and physician; son of the counselor Andreas Bachmann (circa 1570-1642) and Dorothea Krebs; after graduating from the Leipzig gymnasium he attended U. Leipzig, switching to U. Jena and pursuing both philosophical and medical studies; his parents subsidized educational travels through Holland, England and France; returning to Leipzig, he obtained the bachelor's degree 1624, the master's 1625, habilitation in 1627, becoming rector of the Nordhausen gymnasium; 1630 assessor of the philosophical faculty Leipzig and 1635 the professorship of poetry; interested also in theology, he became 1636 colleague of the Fürstenkollegium; 1638 licentiat of the medical faculty and graduated M.D. 1644; 1645 decemvir of the University, 1655 professorship of physiologie; also involved with administrative matters: 4 times dean of the philosophical faculty, twice procancellor, summer semesters 1639 and 1645 rector of the university; buried Apr. 9, 1656 in the Paulinerkirche Leipzig)
