Graduated from Holy Cross College in Massachusetts in 1933. Three years later he earned his JD from Columbia Law School and in 1959 a degree in civil law from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Joined the law firm of Wright, Gordon, Zachry & Parlin in New York. Served in the U.S. Navy until 1946 when he resumed law practice as partner in a firm that placed him in charge of its Mexico City office. Two years later he founded the Mexico City law partnership of Barrera, Siqueiros & Torres Landa. Served in the U.S. Information Agency and for the U.S. Navy Department (1977-1981).)
