His first book, the story collection Bang Crunch, was published around the world to critical acclaim and was chosen as one of the best books of the year by theGlobe and Mail and the Washington Post. Boo is his first novel)
Email from author, Mar. 14, 2018: (No, I'm not the same translator as the Swedish-to-English translator, although we do share the same name. I'm also a fiction writer who publishes with Random House in the U.S., the same publisher that publishes the Swedish-to-English translations that the other Neil Smith does, so we're often confused. I've published two of my own books (Bang Crunch in 2008 and Boo in 2015, both with Vintage Books, an imprint of Random House) and one literary translation (The Goddess of Fireflies in 2016))
