Spencer and served from May 25, 1925, to December 5, 1926, when a duly elected successor qualified; was an unsuccessful candidate for election to fill the vacancy in 1926; chairman, Committee to Audit and Control the Contingent Expenses (Thirty-ninth Congress), Committee on Private Land Claims (Fortieth and Forty-first Congresses); resumed the practice of law in St. Louis until 1943, when he retired and moved to Sarasota, Fla., where he died November 25, 1963; interment in Masonic Cemetery, California, Mo.)
