Apr. 10, 1886) NUCMC data from Maine Hist. Soc. for His Collection, 1834-1898 (Elbridge Gerry (1813-1886) was the grandson of U.S. Vice President Elbridge Gerry. He was born in Waterford, Me., and became a lawyer in 1839. In 1840 he served as clerk of the Maine House of Representatives. He was prosecuting attorney for Oxford County from 1842 until 1845 and was a member of the Maine House of Representatives in 1846. Gerry, running as a Democrat, was elected to the U.S. Congress in 1848. He served from 1849-1851 and did not run for reelection. Following his time in Congress, Gerry moved to Portland and resumed his legal career. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery) |
