Biography/History noteLou Jacobs, born January 1, 1903, in Bremerhaven, Germany, was the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus's master clown for sixty years. He had a very robust repertoire of gags and sketches, including sketches with mechanized props; such as zipping around the hippodrome in his motorized bathtub with strings of water streaming from the showerhead. Jacobs was also known for contorting his frame into a 2-by-3 foot mini car. He as a founding professor at the Clown College in Florida. Lou had two daughters, Lou Ann Barreda and Dolly Jacobs, with his wife, Jean Rockwell. He died of heart failure on, September 13, 1992, in Sarasota, FL.
