Marine Corps, then he received a B.S. in mathematics from Syracuse University in 1958 and an M.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1959, then a BA from Marietta College in Ohio in 1960, an MD from Columbia University (1964) and an MS in physiology and biophysics from the University of Kentucky (1966). While living in Fayette County, Musgrave learned to fly and eventually flew more than 120 different types of military and civilian aircraft. Moved to Houston in 1967 to work at NASA. As mission specialist on the Challenger's second mission with a shuttle deployment on April 4-9, 1983, he was one of the two astronauts who walked in space. Served as a systems engineer on the Spacelab-2 mission from July 29 to August 6, 1985.)
