Wikipedia.de, 26 March 2014 (Bismarck-Gymnasium Karlsruhe; the oldest humanistic Gymnasium in Karlsruhe; the only school in Karlsruhe in which Latin is compulsory for all classes and that offers the possibility of learning 4 foreign languages; goes back to the Gymnasium illustre, founded 1586 under Markgraf Ernst Friedrich am Zwinger, in the center of Durlach; in 1724, Markgraf Karl Wilhelm moved the princely school to the new princely seat, Karlsruhe; since the Gymnasium in Durlach continued to exist, the Markgrafen-Gymnasium in Durlach and the Bismarck-Gymnasium have the same roots; from 1806 to 1872, the school bore the description Lyzeum or Karlsruher Lyzeum; in 1874, a new school building was constructed on Bismarckstrasse, where the Gymnasium has since been housed; in 1938, the school received its current name, named after Fürst Otto von Bismarck)
