Dutch New Biographical Dictionary, via WWW, August 30, 2011 (Luzac (Mr. Lodewijk Caspar); born August 1, 1786 in Leiden; son of Etienne Luzac and Johanna Susanna Valckenaers; became a lawyer at the Supreme Court in The Hague on May 17, 1811; appointed judge in the court of first instance in Leiden on January 21, 1828; became a member of parliment for the State of Holland on July 3, 1828; appointed Judge of the District Court in Leiden on September 16, 1838; curator of the University of Leiden from 1841 unitl his death; one of the main opponents to the policies of King William I and King William II; supporter of Johan Rudolph Thorbecke; member of the State Commission that prepared the constitutional amendment of 1848 that laid the foundation for the present system of parliamentary democracy in the Netherlands; resigned from parliment on June 29, 1848; died Febraury 18, 1861 in The Hague)
