Wikipeida, via WWW, November 3, 2011 (Prince Frederick of the Netherlands; Prince of Orange-Nassau; born Willem Frederik Karel on February 28, 1797 in Berlin; the second son of King William I of the Netherlands and his wife, Wilhelmine of Prussia; grew up at the court of his grandfather Frederick William II of Prussia and his uncle Frederick William III of Prussia; fought in the battle of Leipzig at the age of 16; first entered the Netherlands in December 1813; became Prince of the Netherlands in 1816; appointed commissary-general of the department of war in 1826; in this function, he reorganized the army on a Prussian model, founded the military academy in Breda and reequipped the army with modern weaponry; during the Belgian Revolution of 1830, he commanded the troops sent to Brussels to suppress the rebellion; after the independence of Belgium he took part in the Ten Days Campaign of 1831; was Inspector-General of the army from 1849 to 1868; married Louise, daughter of Frederick William III of Prussia, on May 21, 1825; died September 8, 1811 in Wassenaar)
