Wikipedia, via WWW, May 30, 2012 (Paul Umlauft; German composer, choral conductor and accompanist and music critic of the late Romantic period; born October 27, 1853 in Meissen; attended the Dresden Kreuz School and was a member of the Cross Choir; at the University of Leipzig, he studied philosophy and philology and spent a volunteer year at the Leipzig Conservatory, where he was primarily a student of Carl Reinecke; during this period he was active as a conductor for various musical societies and as a music critic for the Leipziger Tageblatt newspaper; from 1879 to 1883 he was a Fellow of the Mozart Foundation; in 1893, he won second place in a composition competition given by Duke Ernst II of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha; in 1916, he went to Dresden, where he was appointed royal professor in 1918; died June 7, 1934 in Dresden)
