Oxford companion to Aboriginal art and culture, 2007 (Kaapa Mbitjana Tjampitjinpa (c. 1920-1989); Anma-tyerre painter; born at Lurumbu on Napperby station; spent most of his youth and adulthood as a Central Australian stockman; in 1972, he was appointed the first Chairman of Papunya Tula Artists; his common paint subjects were owl, shield, witchetty grub, pelican, snake, black goanna, emu, and yam Dreamings; his work was seen in several group exhibitions including "The Inspired Dream" (MAGNT 1998), "Aboriginal Art and Spirituality" (HCA 1991), and "Tjukurrpa: Desert Dreaming" (AGWA 1993), and is represented in major public collections throughout Australia; he died in October 1989)
