Wikipedia, August 15, 2023 (William Hall (February 11, 1775 - October 7, 1856) was an American politician who served as the seventh Governor of the state of Tennessee from April to October 1829. Hall ascended to the office when Governor Sam Houston resigned amidst a scandal, and, as Speaker of the Tennessee Senate, he was the first in the line of succession. After finishing Houston's term, he did not seek reelection. During the early 1790s, Hall served as sheriff of Sumner County. Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Tennessee's 5th district, in office: March 4, 1831 - March 3, 1833 ; Member of the Tennessee Senate, in office: 1821-1829 ; Speaker of the Tennessee Senate: 1827-1829 ; Member of the Tennessee House of Representatives: 1797-1805)

Find a grave, August 15, 2023 (name: William Hall; birth date: 11 Feb 1775; birth place: Surry County, North Carolina, USA; death date: 7 Oct 1856 (aged 81); death place: Castalian Springs, Sumner County, Tennessee, USA; burial: Hall Cemetery, Castalian Springs, Sumner County, Tennessee, USA; full biography: Tennessee Governor U.S. Congressman. Moving with his parents to Tennessee, in 1785, he and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He served in the Tennessee State House of Representatives, (1797-1805), later became Colonel in the Tennessee Militia and was a Brigadier General in command of the Tennessee Volunteer Infantry, during the War of 1812. After the war, he was a member of the Tennessee State Senate, (1821-29) and was elected as a Democrat the 7th Tennessee Governor, serving in 1829. In 1831, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-second Congress, serving until 1833. After leaving Congress, he lived in retirement at his farm until his death at age 81)
