Biography/History note | Beulah Quo was an Asian American actress and co-founder of the one of the first Asian American theater groups in Los Angeles, the East West Players (1965). Born in Stockton, California in 1923, she earned a bachelor's degree in social welfare from UC Berkeley and a master's degree in sociology from the University of Chicago. While teaching sociology at a community college, she applied for a job as Jennifer Jones' dialect coach for the 1955 movie "Love is a Many-Splendored Thing" and was instead hired by the director to play a small role in the film. In the 1970s she became the first Asian American to produce television public affairs programs for the Asian American community. |
