Deutsche Biographie online, via WWW, Jun. 18, 2013 (access point: Pfeilschifter, Johann Baptist von; born Sept. 27, 1792, Höfen bei Cham (Oberpfalz); died Nov. 16, 1874, Regensburg; father: Johann Adam Pfeilschifter (about 1747-1811), cottager in Höfen, mother: Anna Barbara Fischer (about 1750-1826); after attending the gymnasium in Straubing, studied law 1809-1815 in Landshut (Dr. iur.); worked principally as a journalist promoting conserative church-state relations against a tide of constitutionalism in southern Germany, Protestantism, and liberal influences in the universities; made a legation counselor by duke Ferdinand of Anhalt-Köthen in 1825, ennobled in 1829, losing this position upon the death of the duke; loss of support from Vienna and Köthen during the 1848/49 revolution brought him into low circumstance not relieved by occasional literary work such as the "Bayerischer Plutarch" (1861); his literary remains were destroyed in the municipal fire in Cham in 1877)
