Biography/History noteJohn Francis Uncles (b. Sept. 18, 1898, Chillicothe, Missouri-d. Jan. 20, 1967, Washington, D.C.), served in the Missouri National Guard, 2nd Missouri Field Artillery, then Battery D, 129th Field Artillery, U.S. Army, during World War I, serving under Harry S. Truman. A graduate of West Point, he advanced to the rank of lieutenant general in 1956, and attained prominence as commander of the U.S. VII Corps. He retired from Army service in 1958.
