Found inA story worth telling : essays in honour of Cardinal Napier, 2013: page viii (Cardinal Wilfrid Napier, OFM, was born in Matatiele on 8th of March 1941; went to Ireland in August 1960 and entered the Franciscan Novice House in Killarney; spent three years in Galway acquiring a BA degree at the University there; sent to Louvain University for Philosophy and Theology; returned to South Africa to be ordained priest on 25th of July 1970; after learning Xhosa at the Lumko Missionary Institute, he spent two and a half years in the Parish of Lusikisiki and a further 5 years in Tabankulu; in 1978 he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Kokstad and ordained Bishop of Kokstad on 28th of February 1981; in 1983 he was President of the Southern African Catholic Bishops' Conference from 1987-1994; appointed Archibishop of Durban on 22nd June 1992; appointed Administrator Apostolic of the Diocese of Umzimkulu in 1994; participated in the assemblies of the Synod of Bishops in 1983, 1987 and 2012; towards the end of 1989 was appointed to the Council of the Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops' on 21st of February 2001 he was raised to Cardinal by His Holiness, Pope John Paul II; in 2009 he participated as President Delegate of the 2nd African Synod; in 2005 he participated in the Conclave that elected Cardinal Ratzinger as Pope and in 2013 the Conclave that elected Cardinal Borgoglio as Pope)
