Biography/History noteWalter Hennecke (b. May 23, 1898 in Betheln, Germany-d. January 1, 1984, Bad Lippspringe, Germany) was a Konteradmiral with the German Kriegsmarine during World War II and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross by Hitler for wrecking Cherbourg's port, denying the Allied Forces the use of its facilities once they overtook the city.
