Knoll (1914-1955) was a German American who, together with his wife, Florence Knoll, founded Knoll, the well-known design company and furniture manufacturer. He was born in Germany and moved to New York City in 1938, where he launched the Hans Knoll Furniture Company in 1941. In 1946 it was renamed Knoll Associates. He died in 1955 in a car accident while on a business trip in Cuba.)
