Feb. 26, 2002; joined SS in 1933 and quickly promoted in the ranks and was in 1940 promoted to aide-de-camp to SS Reichsfuhrer Himmler; final rank at the end of the war was SS-Oberstrumbannführer (lieutenant colonel); arrested after Himmler's suicide in May 1945; served as prosecution witness against several SS offiers between 1946-1948; was released in 1949 after being denazified and classified as a lesser offender (class III)).
