Deutsche Biographie, via WWW, November 6, 2015 (Zahlhas, Johann Baptist; Johann Baptist Ritter von Z., called Neufeld, poet and actor, born in Vienna in 1787; he began his acting career at the Vienna Court Theatre; in 1817 he was engaged in Leipzig and played here under the name Neufeld; in 1821 he came to the court theater in Munich, then moved to Bremen; from 1825 to 1827 he was at the Dresden Court Theatre as an actor, then he went to Darmstadt until 1832; he lived in various places until 1842, when he took over as director of the Court Theatre in Sondershausen; after this he transferred his residence to Lucka bei Altenburg; in old age he moved to his native city of Vienna, where he died in 1870; he is better known not as an actor but as a playwright; his first literary work was an edition of a translation of Caldero's Life is a Dream for the stage (1818); he also wrote a number of historical tragedies and comedies, such as Louis XIV and his court (Leipzig 1846))
