Some later radio reference books claimed that the Lone Ranger's first name was John. It appears that the first use of the name "John Reid" was in a scene in the 1981 film The Legend of the Lone Ranger; character first appeared in 1933 in a radio show; created by Fran Striker or George W. Trendle; spawned an equally popular television show that ran from 1949 to 1957, as well as comic books and movies; companion is Tonto, who calls him Kemo Sabe)
