Biography/History note | David Ouchterlony (1914-1987) was a Canadian organist, composer, music teacher, and choral conductor. Born in Guelph, he became organist-choirmaster at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church at age 13, and held various other posts of that nature until 1946, when he became organist-choirmaster at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church in Toronto, a post he held until his death in 1987. Ouchterlony taught music at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto beginning in 1940, also serving as supervisor of branches from 1947-1968 and principal from 1968-1977. His compositions are mostly short vocal and instrumental pieces. Notable compositions include Trust in the Lord and Do Good (1959), the organ piece Trumpet Tune (1957), and A Carol Cantata (1975). |
