Wikipedia, 19 October 2017 (Janko Matúška; Janko Matúška (born 10 January 1821 in Dolný Kubin, died 11 January 1877 in Dolný Kubin) was a Slovak poet, activist, occasional playwright, and clerk of the court; he is best known as the author of the Slovak national anthem, Nad Tatrou sa blýska [Lighting over the Tatras]; he wrote the national anthem's lyrics in 1844 as a student while protesting the unfair dismissal of a teacher; he lived in Orava (Árva) for most of his adult life; he worked in government offices after 1850 and was clerk of the county court in Dolný Kubin from 1870 to 1875; he is buried in Dolný Kubin)
