The mineralogical record, 1994: volume 25, number 6, page 113 (Joachim von Sternberg (1755-1808); Count Joachim von Sternberg was the middle-born of three sons of the Geheimenrat and Finance Minister Count Johann von Sternberg; he studied mathematics, mineralogy and chemistry; in 1792 he traveled to Denmark, Sweden and western Russia, learning more about mining and the iron industry and enlarging his growing mineral collection; in 1798 his father died, and Joachim inherited the family estates and title; his elder brother had died in 1789, leaving Joachim as eldest surviving son; during the next few years he continued his scholarly travels, studying mining and minerals in England, France, Hungary, and Carinthia; he died in 1808, at Brezina Palace; his various publications describe his travels, metallurgical investigations, botanical observations, and chemical mineralogical work; he was a member of several learned societies including the Naturalist Society in Berlin, the Botanical Society in Regensberg, and the Scientific Society of Bohemia)
