Pearl Young Papers, 1927-1995 (Pearl Young) UND Special Collections website, viewed March 13, 2018 Pearl Young Papers, 1927-1995 (Born in Minnesota in 1895, became an accomplished alumnus of the University of North Dakota (UND), left a lasting impression in aeronautics and transportation; while at UND worked as an assistant in the Physics Department, as well as for the U.S. Weather Bureau, while majoring in physics, mathematics and chemistry; graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1919; accepted a teaching position in the Physics Department, where she remained for two years; next joined the Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics; at NACA, first worked in the Instrumentation Division, but later assigned as technical editor and established the editorial department at NACA and wrote "The Style Manual for Engineering Authors," her methodology for editing becoming the standard for the agency; after World War II, left NACA and taught Physics for ten years in the Pennsylvania State University system; for many years, researched life of Octave Chanute, who was considered to be a mentor to the Wright Brothers, with the intention of writing his biography; after being diagnosed with cancer, however, she was unable to complete this work before her death; her research materials on transportation went to the University of Wyoming; her materials on aeronautics and Chanute went to the Denver Public Library; died 16 June 1968 in Hampton, Virginia) <https://apps.library.und.edu/archon/index.php?p=collections/controlcard&id=330> Young, Pearl I.
