Biography/History noteVictor Salvi (1920-2015) was an American-born harpist, harp maker, and entrepreneur of Italian descent. Born in Chicago, he played harp with the United States Navy Band, the New York Philharmonic, and the NBC Symphony Orchestra before moving to Italy in 1955 and establishing the Salvi Harp company. The company moved to Piasco, Italy in 1974. Salvi acquired the US harp company Lyon & Healy in 1987, and introduced the electronic harp. He made modern technological improvements to the harp itself, commissioned harp compositions, published harp music, supported harp competitions, established the Victor Salvi Foundation, and collected harps from around the world, which are now housed in the Museo dell 'arpa Victor Salvi in Piasco. Salvi died in Italy in 2015.
