German wikipedia viewed February 28, 2019 : Albert William Van Buren (born : 17 Feb. in Milford, Connecticut ; died : 2 Feb. 1961 in Rome ; an American classical archaeologist ; earned his bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1900 ; received a scholarship to the American School of Classical Studies in Rome in 1902 and he remained in Rome until 1906 ; from 1906 to 1908, he was a lecturer at Yale ; in 1908, he took a job as lecturer and librarian at ACSCR and was appointed associate professor in 1911 ; upon the merging of the American School of Architecture in Rome and the American Academy in Rome in 1913, he was appointed librarian and associate professor ; his Ph.D. was obtained from Yale University in 1915 ; in 1923, he was appointed professor of archaeology and in 1926 also as curator of the Antiquities Museum of the AAR ; he retired in 1946 ; author of "A bibliographic guide to Latium and southern Etruria", "Graecia antiqua", "A companion to the study of Pompeii and Herculaneum", "Ancient Rome as revealed by recent discoveries" and "Loves and lovers in ancient Pompeii")
