Biographical directory of the United States Congress website, viewed March 1, 2019 (Gott, Daniel; a Representative from New York; born in Hebron, near New London, Conn., July 10, 1794; attended the public schools; at the age of sixteen taught school; moved to Pompey, N.Y., in 1817; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1819 and commenced practice in Pompey, N.Y.; elected as a Whig to the Thirtieth and Thirty-first Congresses (March 4, 1847-March 3, 1851); moved to Syracuse, N.Y., in 1853 and resumed the practice of his profession; died in Syracuse, N.Y., July 6, 1864; interment in Pompey Hill Cemetery, Pompey, N.Y.
