Biography/History note | The Augustiner-Chorherrenstift Sankt Johannes Baptist, also known as Kloster Rebdorf, was a former monastery of the Augustinian canons, located in the Diocese of Eichstätt, in Rebdorf, Germany. It was famous for its monastery library, which from the 15th century played a major role in a network of manuscript copying and scholarship. The monastery closed on August 6, 1806, with the secularization of the Holy Roman Empire. It had previously been looted by the French army in 1800, dispersing its library holdings. |
