Biography/History noteBonaventura Peeters the Elder (1614-1652) was a Flemish painter and printmaker. He was a prominent member of a family of artists, including his two brothers Gillis and Jan, his sister Catharina, and his nephew, Bonaventura, the younger, several of whom he taught or with whom he shared studio space. He was a marine painter, best known for scenes of storms and shipwrecks, as well as views of Mediterranean ports wholly imagined or based on prints or drawings produced by his brother Jan during his travels.
