Biography/History noteKatharina Lescailje (1649-1711) was a Dutch poet, translator, and bookseller. A daughter and heir of Amsterdam bookseller and printer Jacob Lescailje (1611-1679), she and her sister Aletta Lescailje (1652-1725) continued his business as Erven Jacob Lescailje, with assistance from Matthias de Wreedt, widower of their sister Barbara. Her collected works were published postumously, in 1731. Erven Jacob Lescaile specialized in plays, retaining the privilege as exclusive printer for the Amsterdamse Schouwburg. Upon the death of Matthias de Wreedt, his daughter Susanna (1677-1729) inherited Barbara's share and joined her aunts. Katharina Lescailje died in 1711. After Dirk Rank (approximately 1684-1736) married Susanna, in 1712, he joined the business, and he is sometimes identified as Katharina's successor.
