Biography/History noteHieronymus Marchstaller (1576-1638) was abbot of Sankt Paul im Lavanttal (1616-1638). After professing at Benediktinerkloster Ochsenhausen in 1 591, he was educated at Dillingen, then spent some time at Benediktinerstift St. Lambrecht as a prior and subprior. In 1616, he was sent to Sankt Paul, ushering in a new age of restoration and flourishing for the monastery. He reorganized the monastery archives and wrote a history of it, and was also active in the administration of the Diocese of Lavant, the Archdiocese of Salzburg, and the government of Carinthia.
