French Wikipedia, Jan. 21, 2016 (article title: Jean-Frédéric Phélypeaux de Maurepas; Jean-Frédéric Phélypeaux, comte de Maurepas; French politician, born Versailles, July 9, 1701, died Versailles, Nov. 21, 1781; was secrétaire d'état for the Navy under Louis XV from 1723 to 1749; after a long period of disgrace, he became ministre d'état under Louis XVI, from 1774 until his death in 1781; son of Jérôme Phélypeaux, comte de Pontchartrain; succeeded his father in post of secrétaire d'état for the king's household at the age of 14 and a half; became secretary for the Navy, Aug. 16, 1723; modernized the navy, 1730-1740; disgraced in 1749 for alleged attacks on Mme de Pompadour and exiled from Paris; lived in Bourges to 1752, then at his château of Pontchartrain; in 1756, the exile was commuted to a prohibition from appearing at court, and he alternated between the country and Paris; named ministre d'État by Louis XVI on his ascension in May 1774)
