Frankfurt and Halle; ordained Aug. 8, 1756 in the Berlin cathedral as 3rd pastor of the Friedrichswerder church; 1762 2nd Reformed pastor, Dreifaltigkeitskirche in Berlin, and 1766 to the post of Kirchenrat; 1780 appointed court and garrison preacher ("Hof- und Garnisonsprediger") in Potsdam; retired 1799; married Antoinette Charlotte Viktoria Sack, daughter of the senior court preacher Friedrich Sack, 1759 in Berlin)

Die gelehrten Theologen Deutschlands im achtzehnten und neunzehnten Jahrhundert, 1831: Band 1, pages 41-42 (Johann Peter Bamberger; born 1722 in Magdeburg; died Sept. 4, 1804 in Potsdam; devoted himself to theology, and for several years held the position of preacher in the Reformed congregation in Berlin, and named Kirchenrat and pastor of the Dreifaltigkeitskirche in the Friedrichsstadt city section; 1780 appointed court preacher, Kirchenrat and Garnisonsprediger in Potsdam, also appointed director of the great orphanage and preachers' widows home there; put into retirement in 1799 because of the infirmities of old age; active also as an author, publishing his own sermons and those of other clergy, in addition to translating and publishing the works of English authors both theological and literary, esp. W. Bower's Biographical and literary anedcotes (German: "Sammlung biographischer und literarischer Anekdoten von den berühmesten grossbrittannischen Gelehrten des achtzehnten Jahrhunderts"))
