Wikipedia, October 19, 2016 (Dudu Pukwana; birth name: Mtutuzel Dudu Pukwana born July 18, 1938 in Walmer Township, Port Elizabeth, South Africa; died June 30, 1990 in London; musician, composer, saxophonist and pianist; started on piano; switched to sax and won first prize at the Johannesburg Jazz Festival in 1962; invited by Chris McGregor to join The Blue Notes; composing for them as well; Blue Notes moved to Europe in 1964 playing in France, eventually settling in London; Pukwana joined McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath big band in 1964; formed a few groups in the early 70's: Assagai with Feza and Moholo; later the group, Spear featuring kwela rhythms, rocking guitars and jazz solos; formed the group Zila 1978 featuring South African guitarist, Lucky Ranku and vocalist, Miss Pinise Saul)
