Wikipedia, September 28, 2020 (Edward Griffin Beckwith was born in Cazenovia, New York, on June 25, 1818. He graduated from West Point in 1842. He was a United States Army officer who served in the Union Army during the American Civil War and who conducted one of the Pacific Railroad Surveys in the 1850s and became known as the "Explorer of the Central Rockies." He died at Clifton, New York, on June 22, 1881, and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.)
