The poetical remains of William Glen, 1874: p. 16-20 (William Glen, the future poet; born in Queen Street, Glasgow, on the 14th November 1789; entered a house of business at Glasgow about the age of seventeen; despatched to the West Indies as the representative of his house; he remained abroad several years and on his return to Glasgow went into business on his own but his business failed; in 1814 he was elected one of the managers of the Merchants' House of Glasgow, and a Director of the Chamber of Commerce; retired to Perthshire ... at Reinagour, in the parish of Aberfoyle; in 1815 he published "Poems, chiefly lyrical"; died at Edwin Place, Gorbals, Glasgow in December 1826 aged thirty-seven; poems include The Star of Brunswick, Elegy, The battle-song... ; songs include: Wae's me for Prince Charlie; The maid of Oronsey... )
