Archives West (website), viewed Dec. 22, 2023: Frederick DeForest Heald Papers, 1905-1955 (Frederick DeForest Heald was born on July 23, 1872 in Midland City, Michigan. He was educated at the Universities of Wisconsin and Leipzig and was awarded his Ph.D. in 1897. From 1897 to 1915 he held positions at Parsons College, the University of Nebraska, the University of Texas, the State of Pennsylvania and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In 1915, he came to Washington State University as professor of plant pathology and also served as plant pathologist at the Washington Agricultural Experiment Station. In 1918, he became Chairman of the Department of Plant Pathology. He retired in 1941 and died on April 24, 1954. He was survived by his second wife and his three children.)
