Fürst zu Stolberg-Wernigerodesche Bibliothek website, September 17, 2019 (Fürst zu Stolberg-Wernigerodesche Bibliothek; for centuries one of the most important private libraries in Germany; reopened to the public in 2019, 80 years after closing in 1939; founded in the 2nd half of the 16th century in Wernigerode, made accessible to the public in the 18th century; nearly a quarter of the holdings were sold in the 1920s and 1930s, leaving ca. 92,000 volumes when the library closed in 1939; after the war, physical dissolution of the library resulted from expropriation, removal by the Red Army trophy commission, theft, vandalism, the transfer of holdings to other East German libraries, etc.; since reunification of Germany, Philipp Fürst zu Stolberg-Wernigerode has been engaged in reviving the library, with holdings acquired or reacquired through the Indemnification and Compensation Act of 1994 and other sources; presently has ca. 35,000 titles; address: Hofgut Luisenlust, D- 63697 Hirzenhain; email: bibliothek@stolberg-wernigerode.com)
