Wikipedia, January 24, 2020 (Paul Zoungrana, MAfr; born September 3, 1917, Ouagadougou; died June 4, 2000, Ouagadougou; Burkinabé Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church from 1965; Archbishop of Ouagadougou 1960-1995; studied at the minor seminary in Pabré and major seminary in Koumi, where he was ordained priest in 1942; one of his country's first three priests; did pastoral work in Ouagadougou until joining the Society of Missionaries of Africa in 1948, taking final vows in 1952 in Rome; studied at Pontifical Gregorian University and Catholic Institute of Paris 1948-1953, doctorate in canon law; taught canon law at seminary of Koumi while continuing pastoral ministry in Ouagadougou, 1954-1959; appointed Archbishop of Ouagadougou by Pope John XXIII in 1960; he was the first cardinal from Upper Volta, and the only one belonging to the White Fathers; he encouraged Africanization of the liturgy)
