Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 350 ("John Fowler", pioneer political leader, born in Chesterfield County, Virginia; first lieutenant then captain in the Revolutionary War; studied at William & Mary College in 1780. Moved to Lexington, Ky. in 1782. Became one of several trustees of Frankfort, Ky. Represented Fayette County, Ky. in the Virginia convention in 1783 that ratified the U. S. Constitution. Established the Lexington Freemason Lodge No. 1. Served as Transylvania Seminary's treasurer from 1789-1793. Elected to the U. S. House of Representatives 1797-1807. Served as Lexington's fourth postmaster 1814-1822, establisehd Fowler's gardens on three hundred acres near Lexington and transferred almost a third of them to the Concort Presbyterian Church near Carlisle, Ky. Died August 22, 1840 in Lexington, Ky.)
