Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 601 (John Edward Madden, born December 28, 1856 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Moved to Lexington, Ky. where he bred, raced, and sold top trotters then thoroughbreds. Moved to a 235 acre farm east of Lexington that he named Hamburg Place, in honor of one of his first champion horses, Hamburg. The farm later grew to 2,000 acres and he purchased stables in New York. Died in New York City on November 3, 1929.)
