Arthur Eloessers) page 338-340, "Biographie" (born March 20, 1870 in Berlin of Jewish parents; 1888 matriculation in Friedrich-Wilhelm-Universität (Humboldt U.) in history, later switching to German and Romance studies; 1893 doctorate, habilitation studies remain uncompleted; 1897-1899 independent author; 1899 called to employment with the Vossische Zeitung, following year placed in charge of the newspaper's feuilleton section; 1913 leaves the newspaper, becoming dramaturg and director of the Lessing-Theater; 1928 becomes again literary and theater critic for the Vossische Zeitung; 1933 his work is placed on the list of "books worthy of burning", quits the Vossische Zeitung, becoming involved with the Kulturbund deutscher Juden, his writings being published routinely in the Jüdische Rundschau; two trips to Palestine, on the second trip brought back to Berlin early because of illness; dies Feb. 14, 1938 in the Jüdisches Krankenhaus of complications of an operation)
