NUCMC data from St. Johnsbury Athenaeum for His Papers, 1790-1819 and undated (Jonathan Arnold was one of the original settlers of St. Johnsbury, Vermont. He was born in Providence, R.I. on Dec. 3, 1741. He studied and practiced medicine, serving as a surgeon in the Revolutionary War. He was a member of the general assembly of Rhode Island from Providence in 1776 and a member of the Continental Congress from 1782-1783. In 1787 he moved to St. Johnsbury, Vt., and was one of the original settlers of the Town. In Vermont he was appointed a member of the Governors council; was appointed judge of Orange County and served until his death in St. Johnsbury, on Feb. 1, 1793)
