She was a fellow at Dumbarton Oaks, the Harvard Research Institute for Garden and Landscape Studies. Sellers taught at the Bard Graduate Center and worked for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and lectured extensively in the United States and abroad. Executive editor of Flora Illustrata, she heads the Humanities Institute at The New York Botanical Garden and is also a member of the Garden's Library Visiting Committee.
