Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: pages 629-630 (Thomas Metcalfe, governor of Kentucky 1828-1832, born in Fauquier County, Virginia. Moved to Fayette County, Ky. around 1804, then settled in Nicholas County. Served in the Kentucky House from 1812 to 1816 and was a captain in the War of 1812. Served as a U.S. representative March 4, 1819 to June 1, 1828 as a National Republican. Elected governor of Kentucky, serving from August 26, 1828 to September 4, 1832. Then served as a state senator from 1834 to 1838 and a U.S. senator from June 23, 1848 to March 3, 1849. Returned to his Nicholas County farm where he died on August 18, 1885)
