Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 947 (John White, born in Carter County, Tennessee. Educated at Greeneville College in Tennessee and studied law with William Owsley in Lancaster, Ky. Elected as a representative of Madison County to the Kentucky General Assembly in 1832, then elected as a Whig to the U. S. House of Representatives (March 4, 1835 to March 3, 1845) where he served as Speaker of the House 1843-1845. Returned to Richmond where he served as a judge until his death.)
