Biography/History noteDuring his last two years in Spain, José Álvarez Cubero continued to work on his art, producing several sculptures. One of his most famous works is the monumental marble group La defensa de Zaragoza, which can be seen in the lobby of the Prado Museum.

Wikipedia, Sep. 23, 2024 José Álvarez Cubero (José Álvarez Cubero (Priego de Córdoba, 23 April 1768 - Madrid, 26 November 1827) was a Spanish Neoclassical sculptor who spent most of his career in Paris and Rome. He received a grant of 12,000 reais from the royal family to continue his training in Paris, where he was enrolled as a student at the École des Beaux-Arts on 28 September and later, although the exact date is unknown, joined the staff of the studio of the artist Jacques-Louis David.)
